FACTOIDS & TRIVIA
The T-100 was introduced in 1958 and was Guild's first archtop with a shallow body depth. It was fitted with a single neck pickup (T-100) or two pickups (T-100D). Constructed of laminated maple with a bound top and unbound back, the T-100 was a more of a budget model compared to the full depth CE-100 or the thin body Starfire II. The earliest T-100s had 3-piece mahogany necks, but this was quickly changed to a 1-piece mahogany neck. Curiously, the T-100D always had a bound fingerboard, but the T-100 fingerboards were only bound until 1965. It was probably done to save money. Franz "soapbar" pickups were used until 1964 when Guild's new "frequency tested" single coil pickups were fitted. According to Guild expert, Hans Moust, this pickup had coils made by Todd Electronics and the entire pickup was assembled using these coils by Guild in-house.Sometime during 1965, Guild switched to their single coil "Mickey Mouse" pickups. The late versions used Guild Anti-hum and HB-1 humbuckers. Tuning machines also changed through the years on the T-100 and included Waverly, Kluson, Grover, Van Ghent, and Japanese-made tuners. The T-100 and T-100D were very popular and remained in the Guild line until 1974. In general, the tonal flavor of the T-100D leans to the bright side, but the overall sound is dependent on pickup type fitted.
