FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

Following the 2022 introduction of the Surfliner, Guild added the Surfliner Deluxe to the catalog in Spring 2023. Like the standard model, the Deluxe uses a sc-sc-hum pickup layout, but instead of the standard model's LB-1 mini-humbucker, the Deluxe has a full-size HB-2 humbucker. There are some good aftermarket single coil pickup options to replace the HB-2 including the GFS Surf 90. The new model sports a floating vibrato that is similar to Fender's original vibrato first fitted to the Jazzmaster. The vibrato arm collet has a set screw to adjust the arm tension and is a very nice feature. Unfortunately, the tune-o-matic bride does not rock like a Fender Jazzmaster/Jaguar bridge and the string windings take a beating from using the vibrato. A roller bridge would have been a better choice. The roasted maple used for the neck is a nice feature and is supposed to improve neck stability. The Deluxe model also gets locking tuners and was initially offered in three surfy metallic colors: Black, Evergreen and Rose Quartz.
