FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

This is an example of an early S-500 with an ash body and fretted maple neck. An interesting feature of this guitar is that it has the small dot markers on the fingerboard, whereas most G&Ls made from 1980 - 1982 have large dot markers. The original S-500 headstock was large, as pictured here. It wasn't trimmed down to the “standard” size of all the other professional models until the late 1980s. Note, too, that the G&L decal on the headstock is larger than on other G&L guitar models. The 1982 S-500 was offered in sunburst, natural, white, black, clear red, clear blue, candy apple red, and candy apple gold.
