FACTOIDS & TRIVIA
The S-200 Thunderbird was the basis for a re-imagined model that was introduced in 2016 as part of the Newark Street series. There were several versions of the Thunderbird and the modern T-Bird is based off of the earlier model made famous by Zal Yanovsky of The Lovin' Spoonful. The one feature that was omitted in the new model is the tilt-back "kickstand" that acted as a built-in guitar stand. This was a smart move by Guild because 1) it lowers the cost of the guitar and 2) the "kickstand" never worked well and many vintage Thunderbirds suffered damage, including headstock breaks, from falls. The controls can be off-putting for some players, but anyone who like Jaguars and Jazzmasters will find the guitar easy enough to use. What's not so easy to use is the reissue Hagstron Tremar vibrato. It's simply not a very good design and adds to the ovearall quirkiness of the T-Bird.
