FACTOIDS & TRIVIA
Fender amps are considered some of the finest guitar amplifiers ever made, especially the "blackface" amps made from late 1963 to mid-1967. In mid-1965, Fender resurrected the circuit for the 1x15" version of the Vibroverb, but this time used it to drive two 12 inch speakers and named it the Pro Reverb. This model is sometimes referred to as the "Baby Twin" since it closely resembles the Twin Reverb in size and speaker configuration, but at 40 watts, the Pro Reverb has half the output power of that amp. The Pro Reverb was the first new amplifier model introduced by Fender after the CBS takeover in 1965, but it never enjoyed the popularity of the Twin Reverb or the Super Reverb. Partly to blame is the output transformer which is a bit small for an amp of this size and power. Many players have installed the output transformer from the piggyback Fender Bassman since it has much larger iron core. This transformer "transplant" gives the amp much more punch and better bass response.
