FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

The JTM-45 was an iconic amp built by Marshall in the 1960s. Based loosely on the tweed Fender 5F6-A Bassman, the JTM-45 was embraced by many guitarists and is part of Malcom Young's iconic AC/DC sound. The model was reissued in the 1990s although with 5881 (6L6) power tubes instead of the original's KT-66 tubes. Luckily, the reissue transformers can handle KT-66 power tubes and many players, including this one, swapped the stock 5881s for KT-66s. The difference in tone is noticeable and brings the amp's tone closer to vintage. The rig shown here is a typical half stack with a JTM-45 head paired with a 1960AX speaker cabinet loaded with four 12" Celestion G12M speakers.
