FACTOIDS & TRIVIA
In 2017, Guild introduced a reimagined S-100 Polara. The new model was based on the c. 1966 version with double cutaway, offset mahogany body and six in-line style headstock. Unfortunately, Guild didn't use the Polara name and chose to use the Jetstar moniker from the 1960s single pickup version. Guild doesn't care, they just want to sell guitars. The Jetstar is more basic than its predecessor and sports a tune-o-matic bridge and stop tail instead of a Hagstrom Tremar vibrato tailpiece. Perhaps the biggest departure from the original is the switch from a 24 3/4 inch to 25 1/2 inch scale length. While most (all?) mid 1960s S-100 Polara used single coil pickups, the new model uses off-the-shelf reissue LB-1 (Anti-hum reissue) pickups. In addition, the controls have been paired down to a master tone and master volume. The Jetstar is made in China rather than Korea, and offered in black, white and surf green finishes.
