FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

G&L developed a new model, the Doheny, in tribute to Leo Fender's earlier creation, the Jazzmaster. It was introduced in September 2017 and named after the beach in Orange County, California that is synonmous with surfing. The Doheny brings the main elements of its forerunner to G&L with an offset body, vibrato tail, and wide bobbin, narrow aperature pickups. The result is visually "Jazzmaster", but sonically it is all G&L due to the Magnetic Field Design pickups and volume-treble-bass controls. While the Jazzmaster's Floating Tremolo tailpiece and rhythm circuit add to that model's sound (and, sometimes, frustration), the G&L controls and Dual Fulcrum Vibrato are elegantly simple. The Doheny shown here has the optional, and very non-Jazzmaster, hardtail configuration. One small observation - the pickup selector toggle used on 2017 Doheny model is different from the one used on the 2018 model. It looks suspiciously like the one used on the Tribute Doheny. More investigation is required.
