FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

The DCE-3 was introduced in 1999 (or possibly July 1998 if you believe FMIC literature) as the middle model of Guild's cutaway dreadnaught acoustic-electric collection. The DCE-3 has a laminated maple body while the DCE-1 has a laminated mahogany body. The capstone DCE-5 has a solid rosewood body and fancier electronics. All three models have a solid spruce X-braced top. The bracing is straight, not scalloped to help resist feedback. The earliest DCE-3s have tortoise pickguards and 3-piece maple necks with rosewood fingerboard and bridge. The later version, like the one here, was fitted with a black pickguard and 1-piece mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard and bridge. As with all acoustic-electric guitars, the acoustic tone is a bit of a compromise, but in the Guild's case is completely adequate and acceptable. The Fishman electronics, while outdated by today's standards, are competent and nearly devoid of the dreaded piezo quack tone. The DCE series could certainly hold their own against competition from the likes of Ovation and Takamine.
