FACTOIDS & TRIVIA
The D-4 was Guild's bottom-of-the-line budget model acoustic guitar from 1991 to 2001. It was more or less a bare bones version of the best selling arched back D-25 model. It was available with a hand-rubbed (HR) finish, a satin finish or a high gloss (HG) finish. The neck and body of the D-4 were dark stained from 1991 through about 1995 afterwhich it had unstained, natural wood. The rosette became simpler in 1995 as well. The headstocks were painted black for a short time (1994) and the logo changed from gold silkscreened to black silkscreened in 1995. In 1996, the previously unbound back was given 1-ply black binding. The "True American" truss rod cover arrived around 1997. Finally, the Grover Rotomatic tuners were replaced by similar looking diecast Ping tuners in 1996. The guitar shown here is an unstained, bound back, high gloss version with Ping tuners and "True American" truss rod cover. Although it was a budget guitar, the D-4 wone Acoustic Guitar Magazine's 1998 Player's Choice Award.
