FACTOIDS & TRIVIA
In 2013, FMIC re-introduced some classic Guild electric models through their new Korean-made Newark Street series. Then in 2014, FMIC promptly turned around and sold Guild to the Cordoba Music Group which has kept the Newark Street series in their catalog. The CE-100D was re-introduced in 2014 as a mid-1960s inspired model. Like Guild's other Korean-made electric guitars, the CE-100D has many accurate visual cues (compare the sunburst to the 1961 CE-100DP) of its counterpart from the 1960s, but lacks vintage accurate details (cutaway shape and body depth, for instance). Nevertheless, the "re-imagined" CE-100D is a great sounding guitar and can handle jazz and blues with equal ease. It was discontinued in 2018 possibly because it could not compete for marketshare against the reissue Starfire III, which is basically a shallow-depth, mahogany version of the CE-100D. More likely, however, is that this model was prone to a sinking top due to a design flaw. The parallel braces were cut to allow the pickups to fit properly which resulted in weakened braces. If the braces had been made taller, they would have retained more strength and maintained the "arch" in the top. However, the top on this guitar has remained stable for several years and it still sounds great.
