FACTOIDS & TRIVIA
A small quantity of guitars were finished in silver flake in the late Leo Fender era at G&L. This fine flake finish should not be confused with a metallic finish as the two are totally different. The original idea for the finish was for John Jorgenson, however the flake size is much, much smaller than the large flake used on the John Jorgenson Signature model. G&L did not pursue this type of finish for a couple of reasons. First, the flakes contaminated the paint booth so silver flakes started showing up on other bodies. Second, shooting a flake guitar properly is tricky business and many of the flake guitars checked and crazed. The ASAT shown has this rare finish (and non-checked at that!). Another example can be found on the Guitars by Leo website.G&L ASAT (August 1989)
