FACTOIDS & TRIVIA
This is an example of super rare
variant of the ASAT III. It is fitted with a small MFD humbucker taken
from the early 1980s G&L HG-2 model. The HG-2 pickup has a
higher output than the S-500 bridge pickup, yet it is tonally very
strident. It’s bright in the way that a Gretsch Filtertron is bright
compared to a PAF style humbucker. And that’s not a bad thing. As with
the standard 2-pickup ASAT, the 3-pickup variant was available with a vibrato
tailpiece. The guitar shown here is the actual guitar
pictured in George Fullerton's book Guitars
from George and Leo.
