FACTOIDS & TRIVIA
This ASAT Classic Signature has a bound body (top and back) and a
bound rosewood fingerboard. Some had bound maple fingerboards.
According to G&L enthusiast Paul Bechtoldt, only about 10 of
these were made and they are thought to be the field prototypes for the
G&L Commemorative model guitar. However, Dale Hyatt introduced
bound bodies and necks
on ASAT style guitars as early as Spring 1991. Regardless of their
origins, these early, bound
ASAT Classics are
very rare and were the basis for G&L to offer the ASAT Classic
with
binding as an option beginning in 1995. One really interesting note
is that every late 1991 bound ASAT Classic I've played has sounded
extraordinarily good. I don't know what magic is in them, but
whatever it is makes them some of the most outstanding ASAT Classics
ever assembled at the
Fullerton, California factory.
