FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

The ASAT Classic shown here was probably an “employee guitar” and has some interesting features. The Signature body was a leftover and is dated 1991. The metal pickguard and Fine Tuner Vibrato are also pre-1992 features. The neck is a #4 unit which denotes it is wider at the nut (1 ¾”) with a flatter fingerboard radius (25”) than the standard ASAT Classic neck. G&L offered a vibrato tailpiece as an option on the ASAT Classic from the late 1980s through 1991. The G&L Fine Tuner Vibrato unit, which is fitted to this guitar, was available as an upgrade. The tailpiece on this guitar is the third style Fine Tuner Vibrato. The first style was the Pat. Pend. unit which had a large rectangular bridge plate with two vibrato arm bosses. The second style was the Pat. Pend. unit which had a large curved bridge plate with two vibrato arm bosses. The third style was the Patent No. unit which had a smaller bridge plate, which is the same size as the standard Dual Fulcrum vibrato unit plate, and only one arm boss. All three types of Fine Tuner Vibrato sports the Leo Fender signature on the bridge plate.
