FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

After a strong run in the 1960s, the CE-100 received a makeover for the 1970s. The body was deepened by one half inch and the mahogany neck was changed to maple in 1976. Guild HB-1 humbuckers were standard during the 1970s and 1980s, but DiMarzio humbuckers were available as an option, which begs the question: Why anyone would want screaming hot pickups in a fully hollow jazzbox? And because Guild used the "D" suffix to denote "DiMarzio" during this time period (1979-84), the CE-100D was re-designated as simply CE-100. Otherwise a DiMarzio-equipped CE-100 would be a CE-100D-D. Silly, right? Another option, as shown on this guitar, was a pickup phase switch. Grover Rotomatic tuners were fitted in the early 1970s and switched to Guild-labeled Schaller M6 tuners by 1975. Guild-labeled Gotoh tuners can be found on examples from the last few years of production as well. An acrylic stairstep pickguard with gold Guild logo was used from 1970 until 1977 when it was replaced by a 5-ply black/white pickguard. At the same time the pickguard was changed, the truss rod cover was engraved with "CE-100". As with the X-500 and X-175, Guild dropped the "Capri" model name for CE-100 in the early 1970s and the model remained nameless when it was discontinued 1984.
