FACTOIDS & TRIVIA
The L-1000 was the first bass model designed by Leo Fender at G&L in 1980 and it remained in the G&L lineup until mid-1992. The L-1000 resembles a Fender Precision Bass except for the G&L’s large humbucking pickup. The electronics, which allow for single coil and humbucking modes, make the L-1000 a bit more versatile than the old Fender bass. While an excellent bass guitar, the L-1000 was not as popular as the more versatile L-2000 and was, therefore, made in smaller numbers after the introduction of the L-2000. The earliest L-1000s (1980) have large allen head pole pieces. These were changed to slot head pole pieces in 1981-82 and then to small allen head pole pieces by 1983.
