FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

This Jazzmaster belong to my friend, James Werner, who is perhaps the most famous Fender collector that no one knows. He is mainly known for "Werner's List" of Fender serial numbers that has been used by researchers to create the dating tables that we all use to date vintage Fenders by serial number. Jim and I have been friends for over 30 years. I would share Fender serial numbers with him and he would send me his latest version of  "The List" every year. Back then it was just a photocopy of two or three dozen double-sided pages stapled together. We'd have (and still have) long phone conversations and during one of them I asked what software he was using for his serial number list. That's then I learned 1) he didn't (and still doesn't!) have a computer and 2) he hired a retired secretary to re-type the list to include new entries every year. I told him that was nuts and offered to maintain and update the list for him. He took me up on that offer and I've been doing it for him ever since. When Jim decided sell of most of his collection, I jumped on the chance to own one of his guitars, not because it belonged to a "famous" Fender collector, but because it belonged to a good and long-time friend of min. It's a sentimental attachment, not a vintage guitar thing. You can see Jim and part of his guitar and amp collection on the cover of the book, "Old Guitar Mania" by Bill Blackburn. The photo for the book's cover was taken in 1983. If you look closely, you can this Jazzmaster on the far left next to the sunburst Bass VI. Unfortunately, the it got cut off by the book's spine.
