FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

In 1961, the Double Anniversary model received single coil pickups in place of the humbucking units and was produced relatively unchanged through the end of its production life (1976). In 1991, the revived Gretsch company reissued the the 6117, but the body shape was based on the 1970s Baldwin era model and it was fitted with Filter'Tron pickups. In 2004, under FMIC's marketing direction, the model was revised and made more early 1960s vintage accurate in terms of body shape and pickups. But none of the modern Gretsch models are true reissues and so there are features on this guitar that aren't vintage accurate. First, the 6117 was normally fitted with a trapeze tailpiece, but this model was given a Bigsby. Maybe because most players associate the most famous models of Gretsch guitars having a Bigsby or maybe because Fred Gretsch also owns Bigsby (conspiracy theory!). Second, the contrasting wood stringer on the 3-piece neck was omitted. This is odd considering it's present on other modern pro-line Gretsch models. Lastly, trestle bracing was never used on the original 6117 models that were fitted with Hi-Lo'Tron pickups. Another interesing tidbit - in 2010 there was a small batch of 6117T-HT guitars that were never fitted with an "Anniversary" headstock plate. This is one example and it's quite rare. The sunburst 6117T-HT was replaced by the Smoke Green 6118T-60 in 2016.
