FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

The Electromatic series was introduced in 1999 as Gretsch's economy line of guitars mainly made in Korea although some are made in China. Many of the Electromatic models emulate those of the Professional series, but some don't. The 5422G-12 was introduced in 2012 and takes its aesthetic cues from the Gretsch double cutaway models of the 1960s. The "blacktop" Filter'Tron pickups used on Electromatic models are based on 1970's specifications and work very well in the 12-string format. The guitar shown here is a factory special run (FSR) that differs from standard 5422G-12 in two ways - 1) it has Neo-classic fret markers and, 2) it has a natural finish. These changes give it more of a mid-1960s vibe worthy of The Monkees.
