FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

After releasing the 25th Anniversary model, G&L took the opportunity to use the newly reintroduced F-100 style MFD humbuckers on an updated, limited edition F-100. This F-100 "Return Edition" bore little resemblance to the original F-100 of the 1980s. It had a flame maple top on a mahogany body, ASAT style headstock, rear-loaded volume control, tone control and pickup selector switch. In addition, the pickups were wound far hotter than the originals making for a darker sounding guitar. The limited editions trickled out of the factory from 2007 to 2009 along with some interesting one-off versions. A standard version, simply called the F-100, was put into regular production from 2010 to 2017. It sported a Skyhawk style headstock making it a bit more retro. Examples made from 2010 to 2014 had a mahogany body fitted with a #1b "Heritage C" neck with choice of rosewood or maple fingerboard. It was also offered with optional Seymour Duncan or EMG active pickups until mid-2015. According to the catalogs of the time, the F-100 also gained the push-pull coil splitter on the tone pot in 2015, yet the 2012 example shown here has this feature (never trust catalogs). In 2010, a limited number of  F-100s were also offered in "30th Anniversary" clothing which meant a special Pearl Frost finish with matching headstock, ebony fingerboard and pearl button Schaller tuners. G&L made a special run of guitars in 2012, including the F-100 shown here, with natural satin-finished okoume bodies. In 2015, the standard body wood changed from mahogany to ash or alder depending on finish color and the neck was switched to the slightly slimmer "Classic C" profile. The "reimagined" F-100 variants were made in far fewer numbers compared to the original.
